Robert J. Browne (Known as R.J. ) - Club Professional
Laytown &
Bettystown golf club pro-shop is run by the club professional Mr. Robert J
Browne. R.J. has been a golf professional for forty three years and has been the
resident professional at Laytown and Bettystown since
1967.
Playing History
Robert played on the
European Tour from 1962 until 1992. He played on the Senior Tour from 1992 -
2002.
He has held numerous course records and he has also won the Lombard
Trophy.
He was chairman of the Irish region for seventeen years.
He
founded the W.P.G.A. with Mr. Colin Snape as Secretary.
He was also chairman
of the Irish P.G.A. when it amalgamated with the P.G.A. in 1975.
Last year he
was made an honorary member of the P.G.A.
Teaching
History
R.J. has taught many great golfers. These include Des
Smyth and Philip Walton.
He has also taught Michael Hoey, the British
Amateur Winner.
He taught sisters Carol and Phil Wickham who represented
Ireland on the European team. Deirdre Smith, the current Irish champion was also
a student of R.J.
Many of today's up and coming young pros are coached by
R.J.
Our Junior programme at Laytown and Bettystown is overseen by R.J.and is
considered one of the best in Ireland.
Golf consultancy and
interests
Robert is a golf consultant and a golf course designer
and expert witness in legal golf proceedings.
He initiated golf as a subject
on the adult education programme.
He hosts his own radio programme on LMFM
and has been a commentator on T.V. with specific reference to swing analysis.
