FROM YOUR CAPTAINS

It is a great honour and privilege to represent this great club as your Captains in 2010.

Our centenary celebrations are over but lets now celebrate the beginning of a new centenary of golf in the club.

The success of the last 100 years is in no small way due to the support of committees, staff and most importantly you - the members! More so now than ever we rely on your continued support.  So whether it be a game of golf or a social event we look forward to meeting you in the club and why not bring the family or a friend and join in the fun!!!

To our visitors - you are very welcome. We hope you enjoyed the links experience and our hospitality.

Tell your friends and  leave your call card with the office for future contact. We hope to see you again soon.

Mens Senior Cup Crash Out in Leinster Final.

The Men’s Senior Cup team crashed out in the Leinster Final at Grange G.C. yesterday (Sunday 22nd) to Kilkenny G.C. On a perfect day for golf on a superbly presented golf course the current Leinster Champions came up short against a strong Kilkenny side who were out for revenge as we had knocked them out at this stage last year. Full Report to follow.

Trivia

A player’s ball comes to rest on the line or a mark on the ground consisting of paint which has been drawn for gallery-control purposes by the Committee. What is the ruling?

A The player must play his ball as it lies or declare it unplayable.

B The player may take relief under Rule 24-2b.

C The player has no option but to play the ball as it lies.

LAST WEEKS ANSWER

In a match between A and B, A has played 3 strokes and B has holed out for 5. A putts and his ball apparently comes to rest, but is overhanging the hole. Within five seconds, B concedes A's next stroke and knocks his ball away. What is the ruling?

A Since B infringed A's rights, in equity (Rule 1-4), B lost the hole.

B Player B incurs a one stroke penalty for moving a ball at rest and the ball must be replaced by A without penalty.

C The concession stands and the hole is halved.
